Solutions To Eliminate QB Error H505

Once you have understood the reasons, you can try the below solutions to rectify this multi-user error and access your files without any hindrance.

Solution 1: Verify Hosting Settings

  1. Open QuickBooks on any workstation where you encounter Error H505.

  2. Do not open your company file. Instead, select File and then Utilities.

  3. If you see the Host Multi-User Access option, skip this workstation.

  4. Move on to the next one. 

  5. This workstation is not giving the problem.

  6. If you see this option: Stop Hosting Multi-User Access.

  7. Select it.

  8. Repeat these steps on all workstations.

  9. After that, proceed to your server computer (the one hosting your company files).

  10. Open QuickBooks.

  11. Select File and then Utilities.

  12. If Host Multi-User Access is available, click on it. 

  13. Do not select if Stop Hosting Multi-User Access is present.

Solution 2: Configure Windows Firewall Port Settings

  1. Press the Windows key + R.

  2. Open the Run dialog box.

  3. Go to the Control Panel.

  4. Select the System and Security tab.

  5. Click on Windows Firewall and Network Protection.

  6. Choose Advanced Settings.

  7. Select Inbound Rules to create or select a new rule.

  8. Choose Port.

  9. Click Next.

  10. Ensure you select the TCP option.

  11. Enter the port number for your QuickBooks Desktop version.

  12. Click Next.

  13. Restart the application.

Solution 3: Run the File Doctor Tool

Step 1: Access Tools Hub

  1. Close QuickBooks.

  2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub. 

  3. Save the file.

  4. Users can save the file on their desktop or in their downloads folder.

  5. If you've already installed Tool Hub, check the current version. Go to the Home tab. Look at the bottom. 

  6. Open the QuickBooksToolHub.exe file.

  7. Follow the on-screen steps.

  8. Install the tool.

  9. Agree to the terms and conditions.

  10. When the installation finishes, double-click on its icon.

  11. Open the Tool Hub.

Step 2: Use File Doctor

  1. Access the tool hub.

  2. Select Company File Issues.

  3. Select Run QuickBooks File Doctor. 

  4. Wait for a few minutes. 

  5. If the tool is not opening, try to search it and access the tool manually. 

  6. Once open, select your company file.

  7. Select Check your file and Network.

  8. Click Continue.

  9. Enter your admin password.

  10. Click Next.

  11. Lastly, check for the error.
